From Idea to Impact: Cargility Is Ready to Step Into the World

After years of designing, prototyping, testing, listening, refining, and learning, Cargility is ready for its next step.

On August 18, 2026, we will publicly reveal Cargility at the Ann Arbor SPARK Startup Spotlight and officially open our first presale.

For us, this moment is about more than launching a product. It is about bringing a new mobility solution to the people who need it and recognizing the incredible Michigan community that helped us get here.

READ THE PRESS RELEASE.

The Step No One Talks About

Transportation is about more than the journey. It starts with being able to get into the vehicle.

For millions of older adults, people recovering from injury or surgery, and people with mobility or balance challenges, getting into and out of a vehicle can be one of the hardest parts of going somewhere.

Open a vehicle door and there is a gap between the vehicle and the ground with no continuous handrail. People often reach for the door frame, seat, cane, walker, or the arm of a family member or caregiver for support.

Cargility was created for that exact moment.

Our patented, portable door-to-floor assistive mobility device provides continuous, weight-bearing support during vehicle entry and exit. It requires no permanent vehicle modifications, adjusts to fit most passenger vehicles, deploys easily, and folds for storage.

The goal is simple: more stability, more confidence, and greater independence getting from your driveway to wherever life takes you.

Built With the People Who Will Use It

We knew developing a strong product required more than engineering and prototypes. We needed to put Cargility into the hands of real people.

Through the Michigan Office of Future Mobility & Electrification Testing and Validation Grant, we had the opportunity to conduct comprehensive real-world testing and independent evaluation with people representing a wide range of mobility needs and lived experiences.

Working with the Detroit Smart Parking Lab, Detroit Disability Power, Spark Access, NextEnergy, Escalent, and community partners, participants evaluated Cargility across multiple vehicle types and provided feedback on usability, functionality, comfort, and the overall experience.

That feedback mattered.

It helped us better understand our users, refine our design, validate the need for our solution, and prepare Cargility for commercialization.

As our Founder, Inventor, and CTO Meera Ramaswami put it:

“Testing the engineering behind the product is important, but the people’s responses were the real validation.”

Every prototype, test, conversation, and piece of feedback brought us closer to the product we are preparing to put into customers' hands.

From a Michigan Idea to a Michigan Mobility Company

Cargility began with a problem experienced by our own family. Turning that experience into a patented product and a company has taken an entire ecosystem.

Ann Arbor SPARK has been part of that journey, helping connect us with entrepreneurial resources, expertise, partnerships, and opportunities to move from invention toward commercialization.

Michigan's broader mobility, accessibility, disability, healthcare, engineering, and economic development communities have helped us test assumptions, challenge our thinking, improve the product, and keep moving forward.

That is why revealing Cargility at Ann Arbor SPARK feels especially meaningful.

We are not just showing where we ended up.

We are celebrating everyone who helped us get here.
